As has been the tradition for many years on the second Tuesday in September the famous Widecombe Fair is held. The little village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor on Dartmoor is filled with stalls selling everything from carved elephants, to meat produced by local farmers. The real heart of the fair is to be found in the ‘show ground’ in the large field opposite the village school. Here you will find sheep shearing competitions, livestock showing, hay bale tossing, family dog shows, along with many horse and pony events. This year in the main ring along with more traditional events such as the Parade of Hounds and the Dartmoor Hill Pony Display team’s Musical Ride, we were treated to a spectacular display of BMX bike stunts from Kye Forte & MBE Ltd. Another first for this year was ‘Folk at the Fair’, a whole day and evening of live acoustic music from different local bands in the beer tent.
So, after my morning stint selling programmes, I set off for the fair with my camera.
